Your Character

Name: Adam Westcott
Age: 33
Gender: male
Income Tier: I
Profession: Musician/Stay-at-home-dad
Celebrity: Eric Bana

Personality: “So, like, where’s the par-tay?”

Adam’s always up for an adventure whether it’s sneaking into the hottest new club with his band mates or rock climbing. He’s impulsive and ideas seem to strike him out of the blue and he enjoys acting on the ideas. Becoming a father has mellowed him out some, but the underlying urge for something “new” will still occasionally strike him, and he’ll channel it to something useful like finally putting together that bookshelf that had been lying around the apartment for the past few months or cleaning or writing a new song. He’s a big fan of excitement, talking to people, and having fun.

This can make him somewhat flighty, however. Any project that might take a long time to accomplish will soon lose any sort of momentum within Adam's mind and it can lay there waiting for completion that will probably never come. It can also make Adam somewhat hard to communicate with as he tends to think and therefor talk in a "spiderweb" approach that touches all the important points, but doesn't so much fill in all the gaps.

Adam has never been a big fan of the rock and roll lifestyle. He doesn’t drink to excess, at least, not since his college days, and he hasn’t taken any drugs in his life. Really, no drugs, not even the prescribed kind. Natural remedies. He’s very hippie about that sort of thing and quite a few of them work.

Adam loves to talk and will happily engage anyone in a conversation whether he knows them or not. As a result, Adam has a wide range of acquaintances and average friends. He is knowledgeable about pretty much every subject across the board in a rather general sense. He also has a good memory for both names and faces. People are often surprised that he remembers them and all the minutia that he learned from them in their brief encounters. He's intelligent and is very perceptive, easily picking up and analyzing people's smallest changes in facial expression and body language.

He's a passionate person and feels and shows each emotion to its greatest extent. He wears his heart on his sleeve and has no shame in the fact that he is a sensitive person. He's not above shedding a few tears when the situation calls for it or laughing out loud at other times. He's emotionally healthy enough to probably not ever need a therapist.

Without something to focus on, Adam is somewhat aimless and tends to become lazy and unmotivated. He's dreamy and tends to wander around with his head in the clouds until something captures his attention. Adam dislikes confrontation and tends to often play the part of doormat when something is thrust in his face.

Appearance: Adam thinks that he's all right looking, but nothing particularly special and he likes it that way. His coloring is somewhat dark, natural olive skin tone and dark brown hair and eyes. He used to keep his hair long, but then he had a daughter who liked to grab handfuls of it and he cropped it short. It still has the tendency to curl somewhat, but it is much easier to manage, and it was a lot harder to grab. As Torie grew out of the stage where she was fascinated by her motor skills, Adam toyed with the idea of growing his hair back out again, but never actually did it. It's still thick and he hopes to keep it that way. No matter what he does to his hair, he always looks a bit scruffy. He found his first gray hair a few weeks before the cruise. Men in his family tend to go gray at a young age.

His eyes are extremely dark brown, enough so that you have a hard time distinguishing the pupil from the iris. He has a somewhat beak-y nose that runs in the family and that he was very thankful that Torie didn't get. He doesn't have much in the way of a mouth. His lips are somewhat small, and he normally tries to keep himself cleanshaven though he despises shaving with a passion. He lacks an impressive jaw line, high cheekbones sloping down into a small chin.

Standing at six feet, Adam is above average height for a man but is hardly the tallest man in the room. He has rather large hands and feet, but his body is nothing particularly interest. He's not particularly skinny and he's not overweight. He made it a point to eat healthily and before Torie could walk, he used to run in the mornings, but then he found that running after a small child was almost as good.

History: The sixties were a turbulent time, and Donna Robinson and Marcus Westcott were in the center of a whole lot of things. They weren't exactly 'hippies', but they definitely had firm opinions on subjects that were being revolutionized at the times. They'd never met before, but they ended up going to the same college. It was at a protest that the two of them met each other, and it was love at first sight for Marcus, and he denies that it has anything to with Donna being topless at the time.

The two dated steadily through college and eventually wed after graduation. Donna kept her last name and continued on through law school and Marcus got a job teaching at a local high school. It wasn't long after Donna had taken her boards that she discovered that she was pregnant. Both she and Marcus were very excited, naturally, and soon their oldest child, Lennon Westcott was born.

On paper, it sounded like the Westcotts could be an upper middle class family, but Donna worked as public defender and Marcus made an average amount of money, but he also had to support to his wife and kids on that salary, so the family was often defined as lower middle class. When Lennon was about eighteen months old, Adam was born. He would prove to be the middle child as when he was three, the final member of the family, Sawyer was born.

Even if his family didn't have a lot of money, Adam had a happy childhood. He was born and bred in New York City and there never seemed to have a lack of things to do for the three boys who ended up growing up quite close to each other. While in elementary school, the three boys would ride the bus and get off at the closest stop to the high school and spent the final half hour of their father's' working day in the school yard or inside when the weather was bad. It was on one of these afternoons that Adam stumbled into the music room and met Ms. Blair, the music teacher. She offered to teach him to play and Adam soon proved to be a quick study. He practiced every chance that he could get and his parents even bought him a somewhat beat up, broken down upright.

He took lessons and played in recitals and he was fairly certain that he had found his path in life. When he hit puberty, he found another interest in life: girls, and that's when he found out that piano wasn't exactly cool, so he saved up his allowance and finally was able to buy a second hand acoustic guitar which he taught himself how to play. It was somewhat slow going at first but his history with the piano had him well prepared. When he was sixteen, he got a job and most of his money was blown on something related to music, including a brand new electric guitar. Lennon had been the brain's of the family and had been accepted into a college with scholarship and financial aid coming out of his ears. Adam debated the merits of becoming a music major before deciding against it. His grades weren't bad, but they weren't spectacular either, and he didn't want to waste four years of his life. Donna and Marcus were, in fact, rather pleased that their son was going to take a risk and become a starving artist.

Adam and his best friend, Griffin, put together a band. Okay, so it wasn't much of a band as they only had Griffin on drums and Adam on vocals and guitar. Eventually, they were joined by Parker (bassist) and Tobey (lead guitar). The band, Requiem for Reality, turned out to be a modest success in the New York area for random engagements at underground clubs, parties, etc. After playing their normal weekly gig at a club, they were approached to play at a fashion show.

At the after party, Adam was introduced to one of the designers, Alexandria Purdum. He was immediately smitten with the woman and spent the rest of the evening chatting her up and eventually managed to secure her number. The two carried on a relationship. If anyone were to ask Adam, he would have said with out hesitation that the two of them were a couple, but he always wondered if Alex would say the same thing in their earlier days of courtships. He was fairly certain that she wouldn't but Adam was unwilling to give up and eventually the two were firmly within couple status.

In November of 2003, Alex told Adam that she wasn't feeling very well and Adam worried about his girlfriend for several days until she told him that she was, in fact, pregnant. The idea of a baby thrilled Adam . . . for about five minutes as he began to think about the repercussions that this might have. Alex's parents weren't exactly the most open minded people on the planet would hardly be thrilled with their daughter's condition. Alex also wanted to get married, an idea that Adam wasn't necessarily opposed to, but it meant a bit of work on their half and it meant putting both sets of parents in the same room for hours on end. The very idea of the two of them meeting made Adam a little nauseous. The two eloped without much fanfare, and the two of them sort of went back to their normal every day lives but with rings on their fingers.

Alex worked through most of her pregnancy, and Adam worked as much as he normally did. Most of his free time was spent preparing stuff for the baby and worrying about Alex. Eventually, Alex was persuaded into taking her maternity leave during her final trimester, and while Alex might not have been happy to stay at home, Adam was happy to have her there and spent the rest of her pregnancy caring for her as much as she would allow. Finally, in July, their daughter Victorie was born. Adam adored his daughter instantly and could hardly wait for his two girls to be taken home.

The family was together for awhile before Alex returned to work. She was primary breadwinner for the family and Adam's job was part time at best and most of his gigs took place after Alex returned from work to watch the baby. He hardly minded being a stay at home dad, since Alex loved her job and he could still forge his own path.

It was their three year anniversary when Adam's in-law's gave them cruise tickets. Adam was somewhat surprised as Alex's parents had never been crazy about their son in law, but they seemed to want Alex's home life to be as good as possible and were doing it in the name of family unity. Eventually, Alex was convinced to go and the family of three board the ship.

How did he/she get from the ship to the island?: "Good night, sweetheart," Adam said as he pressed a kiss to his very tired three year old's forehead. She was asleep almost instantly and Adam and his wife headed out to have some late night family. Adam was happy to be out on a cruise. He'd never been on one before. His family vacations, when they had had one, were to the not so far away and not at all exotic, Jersey shore.

They headed upstairs when the ship lurched to the left as soon as they gathered their wits, the two of them hurried back to check on Torie when the ship gave another lurch. They reached their quarters to find that the door wouldn't open, and Adam began to frantically try to push the door open. Together the Westcotts were finally able to force the door open, but they found to their horror that they had been too late. Torie's body was lying on the floor, not moving and not breathing. It became apparent that one of the ship's jerking had caused her to hit her head with enough force to kill her.

Too stunned to feel anything at the moment, Adam simply gathered up the limp body from the wreckage of the room and watched as if expecting his daughter to reanimate at any moment. One of the ship's crew found them eventually and told them that they had to leave. Adam carried the body out to the island along with them and once he plunged into the icy cold water, he realized the horrifying truth that Torie was really gone for good. He carried her along and helped Alex up to the island. A few hours later once things had settled down a little, Adam dug a grave for his daughter and put her to rest.
