Quote:
It was a quiet night. All the work was done for the day and though he was on call, Bryce was momentarily off duty. He had tucked Tristan into bed already. His son was sound asleep...dreaming of adventures on the sea no doubt. Bryce exhaled in an almost frustrated manner. It was a sound that nobody usually heard out of his deep vocal chords. It was only a sound that he allowed himself in the solitude of his own thoughts.

Out of his pocket, his weathered hands revealed that which was troubling his mind. It was a small picture of...her. His dear Emily. He pulled his light jacket in tighter as the winds of the sea seemed to pick up. They always seemed to pick up when he thought of her. But why shouldn't they? After what they had done to her? The Chief Engineer could only imagine the fight Emily must have put up. The fire in her eyes. He could still see it! He could feel the... Bryce nipped his thoughts in the bud by biting his lip. She would have fought. Just as he was doing. Fighting the sea by trying to tame it. Sounds foolish doesn't it? Not to Bryce. Nothing was rediculous enough to call foolish when protecting his Emily.

Bryce put those thoughts away, along with the photograph. He breathed in the cool night and looked out at the stars. If there was one thing he could not hate about the ocean, it was clear nights such as these. When the breeze was just cool enough to put a jacket on your shoulders. When the sky was so clear, you weren't sure where it ended and the dark waters began. The boat reflected its lights...a gaggling pack of laughing hienas, also known as young female passengers, broke out onto deck. Bryce did not turn to look. His shoulders flexed with a bit of frustration. This was why he had chosen to work below deck. Waiting until they had passed to turn back indoors, Bryce soon made his way down to his cabin again. He took a step up on his bed to check on Tristan, in the bunk above his. Seeing his son sound asleep and as peaceful as a little boy can be, Bryce also retired to bed.

Your Character

Name: Bryce McGrath
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Income Tier: I
Profession: Chief Engineer
Celebrity: Brad Pitt

Personality:

Bryce is a calm and collected sort of guy. He has an incredibly tolerant disposition and exudes patience. He's one of those guys that is known to be easy to get along with. Bryce is very much a people person. It's not even that he's all that social though because he tends to be rather reclusive when off duty, it's just that he has excellent people skills. The few words that he does speak are spoken with confidence and a sure steadiness.

Bryce's job requires that he has a cool head on his shoulders. The men that work under him usually find him to be a tough boss, but an equally hard worker. He will never ask a fellow engineer to do anything that he couldn't or wouldn't do himself. Perhaps this is why he tends to be rather well respected within the networkings of the staff upon all the ships he has worked on. If there is any, one, major flaw in his personality, it is Bryce's sense of protectiveness. Perhaps it comes from to much loyalty or maybe it's because he strives so hard for perfection! Whatever it is, Bryce can become extremely protective over his work, his kid, and his own honor.

Just to give you an example, he was kicked off of his first ship working as a 3rd Engineer when the 1st Engineer accused him of tampering with the equipment and being the cause of some major on board breakdowns. Bryce, who usually had such a calm disposition, went off and punched the guy in the face! Needless to say, he will never put up with somebody implying falsities or lies that lessen his honor. Not only that, but Bryce is a very unforgiving person. He will give his trust willingly...but cross him once and he will not forget it. His breeding molded in him the need to be a gentleman, so he will hold his tongue. But never again, will he trust you if you have given him reason to doubt you. The only person that receives second chances in his mind is his son or other children for truth is only learned through mistakes early on in life.

Appearance:

His face is as calm and collected as his attitude, but as firm and strong as his job commands. Bryce is known for leaving his face scruffy. After all, who is he trying to impress? But his solid chin and stark hazel eyes make his rustic look complete. Bryce's hair is a natural, dirty blonde. But, depending on where he is and what he's been doing it can look lighter or darker. People that have seem him at port believe his hair to be a lovely blonde while the men he works with below deck would tell you it is a soft brown.

His stony hazel eyes can not be mistaken though. They are a solid mix of greens and browns, gentle upon his son, but apathetic towards the rest of the world. Bryce is as stocky and built as his job requires. It is not something he flaunts though! A button-down shirt almost always covers his smooth stomach, khaki pants, worn and tattered while on the job, disguise his well-built calves while the only hint of his strength is seen in his arms, since the sleeves are normally rolled up. His body is as solid in width as it is in height with Bryce reaching 6'1 when he was 21.

Just like his personality though, his body has a few flaws of its own. Of course, his job has left many signs upon his masculine form. Bryce has the calloused hands with deep scars that are signs of a man who has worked his way from the bottom-up. The most brazen or noticeable mark however, is that of a scar that cuts from his inner wrist and sweeps around to his elbow as well as a matching one, hidden beneath his shirt that curves from his hip bone...up the side of his stomach to connect with some of his ribs. He wasn't born with it though. It was the result of a sailing accident during his early years of working on ships. Every true sailor has one or two!

History:

Bryce McGrath, surprisingly enough, was not born into the lower class where he worked his way up. He was raised in the lap of luxury. That lap belonging to Maurice and Sienna McGrath. Maurice is the owner of a multi-million dollar yacht franchise. Building it from his own sweat and determination however, he was able to instill within his son, the same grit and stubbornness that would one day steer him in a different direction than his father's wishes. Bryce grew quickly with a strong mind and heart for the sea. There wasn't a week that went by in which Bryce didn't see the sea. From the time his mother would allow it, he was on any short excursion with his dad that he could convince his parents he could help out on. Of course, it never took much convincing to win over his father! His mother however, wanted her son to grow up in good society, not in the company of more sailors. She had always hoped that he wouldn't choose the life of his father. And...in some ways...her wish came true!

It happened when Bryce's parents sent him off to college. But this wasn't just any university! This was a maritime academy! His father sent him there to gain better knowledge so he could easily slide his son into the seat of captain upon one of his ships. His mother...didn't want him to go there at all. Neither of them won in the end. While Bryce was there, he learned more than his father had hoped. The ambition young man set his heart on the life of an engineer. Not to mention the girl that had introduced him to the program! Her name was Emily.

Emily Vernon. She was fiery and passionate! Her zeal for life was absolutely overwhelming. In a good sense though. It put a fire into Bryce's own soul...and heart. His senior year at the academy, the two were married. Soon after his graduation, at the age of 22, his son was born. Tristan McGrath. The pride of his life! The little boy grew in the world of sailing. His mother was a first officer. His father, working his way up to the position of chief engineer. The family was constantly traveling. There was always a new place to see, a new crew to work with. The three led an adventurous life. That is, until the sea finally called for the family to pay its dues. The cost? Emily, dearest mother and wife. The family had been separated shortly. Tristan was staying with Bryce's parents while Emily and Bryce were on separate ships. The company they worked for had stupidly separated the couple this time around! Bryce was rather calm about it but Emily didn't like the separation. She protested it with her fiery attitude. But to no avail. Bryce comforted her as they left their son behind and the two also were forced to part ways. Oh how the nightmares of his actions now haunt him!

Bryce's journey ended two days before Emily's was supposed to. Two days before the worst storm to ever hit the coasts of Spain unveiled itself. Two days before Emily's ship was caught in the quarrel between waves and air. Two days before the sea took Emily's life from both the husband and son that loved her so. Tristan was only 5 years old. Bryce, well, his heart was broken when the news came. Never before had tears been released from his eyes. But in that moment, his body was so racked with grief that the liquid flowed from his eyes as he kneeled down to his son who also shared in the horrible loss.

Bryce's father, Maurice, offered his son and grandson an easy life. They could stay with them in the warm seas of the Mediterranean and forget their grief! But Bryce would not have it. He could not live and work in the same sea that had taken the life of his beloved wife! It wasn't long before he received a commission from another one of the many cruise ship companies. And so, he sold the house that he had shared with his wife for so long, took only his son and a few personal items and moved to a new location. It was there that Bryce met up with this cruise liner and became deemed the permanent chief engineer. It was there that Bryce chose to live out the rest of his life, only living to raise his son and fight against the sea that had killed his wife. No longer was the ocean something he loved but something he he sought to tame. It was a fool's hope, sure! But it was the only reason he remained a chief engineer. He had to work to take care of his son. But now, it was only out of spite and hatred for the water below the ship that Bryce toiled on deep within its hull.

How did he get from the ship to the island?:

Normally, as chief engineer, you would have found Bryce McGrath in the depths of the boat when a storm hit, making sure everything kept running smoothly. This storm was different however. There was no warning!

Bryce had been tucking his young son into bed. Tristan begged to hear a tale of the sea, though his father chose a story of the wild west from the Americas. He simply didn't have the heart to speak of any of the wondrous adventures he had shared with his wife. Maybe one day, but for now, his son would have to suffice. Though, anybody could have told that Tristan wasn't so happy with the selection. Still, the story wasn't very far in when Bryce began to feel a different rhythm in the waves hitting the ship. Being on the ocean all his life, he knew when something was amiss. So, story time ended quickly. Bryce was throwing back on his work clothes when the ship swung into a tumultuous toss. It slung the 29 year old man back into the sleeping quarters, catching himself on his own son's bunk. Get that life jacket on Tristan! Now! Bryce clinged to the cabinet, flinging the life jacket from inside straight at his son. Tristan scrambled to catch it as the boat rocked violently in the opposite direction. Bryce caught his son as the two were slung into the cabinet. Immediately, before he could be tossed again, Bryce got to his feet and lifted his son into his arms. Hold on tight Tristan!
But Tristan already knew the drill. From the time he could walk, he had been a part of the safety drills that were done every time they pulled into port. His mother and father had ingrained in him his roll. Hold on tight to mommy or daddy or whoever mommy or daddy hands you to! The Second Officer aboard the ship ran into the two as they came out of Bryce's cabin. Cheif...! I'm on my way! Get Tristan to... I know! Everybody knew the drill when it came to Tristan! Including Tristan. He grasped the officer's hand tightly as he was led down the corridor, looking back to see his father go the opposite direction. Bryce didn't leave time for affectionate goodbyes. He charged down the corridor, other engineers in the staff both in front of and behind him, all barking orders and yelling out what to do! Apparently, the ship had already hit something and water was filling the ship quickly. Bryce was about to head down to the deep dark, mostly underwater, parts of the ship when he was yanked back. It was the First Officer, they needed him up in the control room! With a gruff bit of a growl and a grit of his teeth, Bryce caught up with his first engineer and informed him that he was in charge down in the hull. Then, he quickly ran up.

By the time they got there though...there was not much Bryce could do. The windows had been busted. All electric technology was destroy by the wind, rain and ocean spray! It was no use. That's when the thud of liner hitting ground racked the ship with a tremendous shake. All the men were thrown to the ground...followed by orders tossed here and there. Bryce scrambled to his feet, given direct orders from the captain to aid the passengers. And so, that was what he did until he switched shifts with some of the staff and crew that had already been upon dry land. Dawn was breaking when Bryce was released from duty and made it ashore on one of the boats with other worn and weary staff and passengers. Immediately, trying to stay awake and on his feet, he searched for his son. Young Tristan spotted him first and ran from the nurse he was helping, into his father's arms.

Is your application complete? There is a (3) paragraph minimum for personality and appearance, as well as a (5) paragraph minimum for history, so you are going to want to spread them out so we can see them in paragraph order. =) I'll read it after that is done.
